I first ventured up the Old Man of Coniston in July 1986 on my own. It rained from start to finish and for most of the walk I could see no more than a few feet in front of me. Five years later (01/07/1991) and the walk I did with Richard, taking in Brown Pike, Buck Pike, Dow Crag, The Old Man, Swirl How, Grey Friar  and Wetherlam remains one of the most enjoyable walks I've ever done in the lakes. The weather was good and the views were superb everywhere. One of the best.
