The Lake District Mountains

The Lake District Mountains is intended as an archive of mountain walks undertaken over the years in and around the fells of the English Lake District. The site also include photos of Wainwright walks and occasional non-lake district walks. Anyone who enjoys walking, hiking or climbing, particularly in the hills of the Lake District National Park will, I hope, find something of interest here. Although I have used a number of sources in compiling the fells listed on this site a good deal of its inspiration comes from the work of Alfred Wainwright. Inspiration has also come from the increasing number of excellent websites that now exist relating to this subject, some of which are listed on my links page.

Mountain Definition - It's generally accepted, I think, that a mountain should have a summit that reaches at least 2000ft. After that definitions become more problematic. Should there then be a minimum drop on all sides or a minimum distance to separate one distinct mountain top from another? There is no definitive list which is agreed upon. For the purposes of this website I've listed 155 tops over 2000ft.
