14.Esk Pike 2904ft/885m

22 07 06 - Latest walk and photos - Bowfell, Esk Pike, Allen Crags and Rossett Pike.

25 11 04 - Walk first completed - with Paul Drury. We started the walk from the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel and proceeded via The Band, Bowfell and Ore Gap. The cloud never lifted all day, we had no decent views from anywhere and the general quality of the photographs turned out to be poor. From Esk Pike we wandered down towards Esk Hause with the mist still thick around us and rather embarrassingly and stupidly we lost our way and found ourselves somewhere north of Sprinkling Tarn when we had intended to head for Rossett Gill. We were grateful for the able and knowledgeable woman who pointed us in the right direction. I was still not entirely convinced where we were until Angle Tarn appeared through the mist. There was little light left when we reached the foot of Rossett Gill and we were in total darkness by the time we got back to the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel. An unforgettable walk, mostly  for the wrong reasons. But it could have been worse.
